April Update – and Good News

I again apologize for the long space between updates and posts but not a lot had changed since last post. I work 12-hour days five days a week and if possible work on my days off.  Friday March 18th, the weekend of “March Madness”, Thursday and Friday March 24th and 25th during Conex (Construction Expo) and then again Thursday April 14th for NAB (National Association of Broadcasters)I was able to work the Convention shift of 7am to 7pm.

I know many readers will think is Bruce crazy to work so much? Well, except for the long hours and low pay, I enjoy the job and I have been doing much better in tips. I also am supporting two households. I have been also getting good numbers in the average at work for both dollars booked on the meter and the amount of customers or “trips” each day.

Now for the reason most of you follow my site, what is happening with Elena’s VISA? In December our petition at the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Service) was approved and forwarded to the NVC (National Visa Center).

Since then I had received notices that items had to be corrected or more items of information needed to be sent to them. Since my brother is a joint sponsor, I needed to send in proof of his citizenship and more information on my Affidavit of Support.

Well last Friday, April 8th I received an email that our file was approved and being forwarded to Manila. Then yesterday, Thursday April 14th we received an email with the date for Elena’s appointment for her interview at the Consulate in Manila. It is in just three weeks on May 6th.

In the past, Elena would receive a package from the Embassy with an appointment date to have a physical at St. Luke’s Medical Center and then the interview date and time a week later. Now Elena just has to go first to the Medical Center with the letter from the NVC showing her file number and approval and then to bring the approval to the Embassy for her interview. This can be done the same week. Another approved system is that Elena should get her visa the day of the appointment instead of paying for a messenger service to deliver her passport with visa once completed.

Once Elena returns to Davao after her interview with her Visa, she can then pack and purchase her airline tickets to come to Las Vegas. I am expecting Elena to be here by the end of May.

With all the waiting and corrections, we are so excited the time is so close. Her interview will be one year and two days from the date I left the Philippines. For almost a year we have only seen and talked to each other over the internet and calls using the Magic Jack Elena has in at our house in Davao.

About our house and car, our oldest nephew Amar and his wife and new baby will live in the house and care for it. We are still trying to sell the car to help cover the expenses of Elena’s trip and to help us purchase a decent used car here in Las Vegas.  If any of my readers are interested in the car, please notify me. All offers will be considered.

Also all, please join us in prayers for Elena’s safe trip to Manila and a speedy approval of her interview and receiving her visa and her trip and new adventure coming to America.

  4. Vanessa says:

Wow, what an improved and smooth process they have now for immigrants. Faster than i expected. They finally did something with the system and not waste too much time and money from the applicants. I’m so happy for you and Elena, can’t wait to see you guys again. I’ll come visit LV sometime next year after our Philippine trip. So what year and model is your car Bruce?

    • Bruce says:

      Vanessa,
We both loo forward to seeing you again. The car is a 2007 Kia Rio. It was purchased new Dec. 2007. It has low mileage and in good condition.

Congrats Bruce! I am happy for you & Elena! I think she’ll like LV. There’s Jollibee, Chowking, Red Ribbon & Goldilocks (but I didn’t go there) in LV.

    • Bruce says:

      Roy,
After she gets over the home sick, I am sure she will like Las Vegas or where ever we might go. I surprised 3 Filipinos last week when they gave me an address and when I asked is it a business. They said Jollibee and I said I know it and that there is a chow king and red ribbon. When they said “You know them?” I replied Talaga. Then I showed them the photo of me shaking hands with Noy Noy Aquino and they were impressed.

      • Marvin says:

That’s so cool ! We’re praying for you guys, She’ll love all the May flowers. God speed

        • Bruce says:

          Marvin,

I thought Mayflowers brought Pilgrims to Plymouth. Actually, this is the desert and not much flora and fauna.

  6. Franc says:

I’ve followed you off and on. And enjoy reading your entries. Glad your wife will be with you soon. My prayers are with you.

  7. Neal in RI says:

    Bruce
Congratulations on the good news of the Wife’s progress.
I am sure your wife will get along just fine there in Vegas, prolly the fact that there are LOTS of Filipinas there will help her get over the homesick blues if she gets them.

In case you care the “Pinoy Pinay” touro touro style resteraunt that is on E.Sahara was not that great, but next door there is a pretty good market that we checked out if your Wife yearns for products from the RP.

    Congrats again!

    • Bruce says:

      Neal,
I passed Pinoy Pinay the other day and thought of you. As you see in my new post, we are on the last leg.

  8. James says:

That’s awesome news! I have been following your saga for a while. I know how frustrating the visa process can be. I heard it’s harder to go the route that you went with getting married first and then having your spouse come to the USA. I wish you continued good luck and happiness with your family in Las Vegas. I am considering moving to the Philippines when I retire in 8 years (we are about the same age). Life is an adventure.

  9. Kevin says:

    Bruce,

Congratulations on moving forward with your petition. Sounds like Elena will be here soon. Try to find some Filipino food stores so you don’t have to look later. Her home sickness may take a while, be patient, especially around the holidays. Good luck to you both, this is such good news.

    • Bruce says:

      Kevin,
Thanks for the wishes, yes we are much closer. I do know of a few Filipino markets and restaurants. There is also 2 Jollibees, a Red Ribbon and a Goldilocks.

  10. Evelyn says:

ohhh, this is such a breaking news.
    i’m so happy for you,bruce..
elena will surely be here soon..
good luck to her interview and God bless

  11. Flopper says:

    How much for the car

  12. I can see you are keeping up the good work Bruce! You are a fighter! I hope you will reunite with Elena soon!
