At the Next Hurdle

Getting Elena here is now at the next and easier hurdle. Last week I received a package from the NVC (National Visa Center). They asked for payment for the Affidavit of Support processing. They now have an online way of paying. Once that was paid, I received and invoice for the Immigrant Visa Processing. I have send that. Now I am waiting for my brother to send my the Affidavit of Support form since I have not worked in the USA for 3 years and he is helping as a Joint Sponsor.

I hope once these items are sent in, the NVC will forward all to the Embassy in Manila for the final step and Elena can come here.

Reading what you wrote Bruce, it seems that there are certain similarities in immigration procedures between USA and Canada after all.
You mentioned that your petition has been approved at USCIS. That would be similar in Canada to be approved as a sponsor first. Then all paperwork gets forwarded to embassy in Manila which has all decision making powers in issuing visa. And that part is biggest hurdle, embassy will decide if person you going to sponsor gets visa or not. For Canada, processing in Manila takes between 4-8 months. I wonder how long it takes at US Embassy…

      Marcel,

We were approved by USCIS and it is now at the National Visa Center. They requested payments for Immigrant Application and payment and forms for Affidavit of Support. I called for an update and was told the NVC does not check for accuracy but that all is needed for them to forward to US Consulate in Manila.

The final decision for VISA approval and issuance of the VISA is at the US Embassy Consulate.

Isn’t that something all the hoops you have to go through to come here legally when millions just walk in and get everything handed to them. I hope you get to see Elena soon and you are reunited. Good luck.

      Jeff,

I know and it bothers me that illegals get to stay with the amnesty deals the govt always makes but my legal wife has so much trouble. Our Government at it’s best, NOT.

Many have been told me, I should have Elena fly to Mexico and walk across the border. I want tpo do it right and legal so there is no problems in the future.
